A Message From The Artistic Director
Dear esteemed guests,
I want to express my excitement about Lamondance's production, "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of." A celebration of our emerging artists throughout season 14. Our production is a collaboration of talented dancers, choreographers, and technicians who have come together to create a mesmerizing performance that explores the wonders of the human mind and the power of our dreams.
At Lamondance, we believe in the power of art to inspire, educate, and transform individuals and communities. We strive to bring visionary and thought-provoking performances that stimulate imagination and promote dialogue. "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of" portrays human thought and emotion's constant flux and evolution from the mundane to the extraordinary. Our mission is to bring a sense of wonder, creating opportunities for our emerging artists while promoting intellectual curiosity.
Not only will this performance showcase extreme talent, but it is also an excellent opportunity to experience an emerging generation of dancers who are learning the art of choreography from renowned professionals.
I am excited to bring incredible creations to this program with the unique, bold and daring new choreographic works by guest choreographers Jera Wolfe, Margarida Macieira, CAMP and Anya Allegra. These artists have shared their voices with our dancers creating dreaming pieces and supporting our dancers in their journey. I am also honoured to share the program with these brilliant choreographic voices bringing three creations of my own from my repertoire created for Lamondance over the course of 10 years.
It has been a pleasure to evolve Lamondance's voice over the past ten years. Reflecting on how it all started, all the artists that our organization was able to touch and inspire, the journey of creating something special in our community, establishing a voice that is also heard around the globe, made who we are today.
I want to express my love and gratitude to all of you that have been here throughout our journey and have helped Lamondance become what it is today - A possibility of change, an opportunity for the future and certainty for creativity.
We hope you enjoy the show and find it to reflect your innermost thoughts and what the future holds for us all. Thank you for joining us, and we look forward to sharing this unique experience with you. Thank you for being here today to support our dancers as they continue developing their dance skills.
Enjoy the show!
Sincerely,
Davi Rodrigues

“Arriving in a foreign land for the first time was the biggest challenge in my life thus far. The ground was continually flowing beneath me, not allowing for a moment of hesitation, regret or starting over. Many people appeared and disappeared in front of me through an imaginary curtain, like ocean waves coming and going creating a patterned appearance like that of mixed marble.
This life has been thrown into motion, and there’s no stopping it.” - Davi Rodrigues.

Music: Bill Ryan & Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble and Samuel Barber
One's Own (excerpt)
World Premiere April 2023

"In this work, I wanted to explore what happens when people experience the same event and how they are affected by that event differently. I wanted the dancers to feel a sense of unity at the beginning and then slowly break off in variation. By the end of the work, they are left to reflect on what they have experienced through short solos, which are uniquely designed by each dancer. What matters is the interpretation of one’s experience."
Choreography by Jera Wolfe
Music: Don’t Go by Christopher Dennis Coleman / cold embrace by Gian Marco Castro / All Our Friends Are Vampires by A Winged / Victory for the Sullen, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, Dustin O’Halloran

This work explores the essence of living in constant paradox; between existing in effort and letting go, tension and softness, connection and alienation, intuition and reason.

Still
World Premiere, February 2023
Performed by the Training program
'Still' depicts a scene after a storm. It reflects on our human capacity to connect to one another and our default as human beings to take care of each other amidst a world that pulls us into states of individualism and 'fend for yourself' existence. 'Still' asks for more moments of intimacy in the world.
Choreography by Anya Saugstad, in collaboration with the dancers.
Music: Original composition by Stefan Nazarevich
Angels
World Premiere, April 2012
Performed by the Training program with special guests Rosalie Caron & Lazaro Silva
"Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past
and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future."
― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
Created in 2012, originally titled "Anjos que caem," now "Angels." The work is about the path of angels once they have fulfilled their mission.
Where does the human [angels] soul go once they have served its purpose on Earth?
"Why are we here now?"
This piece suggests there is no 'now' or 'here.'
There is only a place that angels create together; so they can find one
another. Nobody makes it alone.
What is an angel's purpose? To remember and let go. And through this, they begin again.
Choreographer Davi Rodrigues
Music: Ombra mai fu performed by Edson Cordeiro, Pawel Blaszczak and orchestra Della Svizzera Italiana.
